Birth Control Pill
Women age 18-40 may qualify for a one year trial for pregnancy prevention. Volunteers will receive the investigational contraceptive pill for 13 28-day cycles, and study-related care at no charge. Compensation for time and travel may be provided.
Birth Control Patch
The patch being tested in this research study is an investigational transdermal (skin) drug patch. The patch contains a man-made hormone called norethindrone acetate (NEA) that is used for birth control. NEA is a type of hormone known as a progestin and is used in birth control pills that are approved by the FDA.
Women age 18 to 45 who are at risk for pregnancy may qualify, including women who are breastfeeding. Volunteers will receive one year’s supply of the drug patch as well as study-related evaluations and care at no cost. Reimbursement for time and travel may also be provided.
Menstrually-Related Migraines
We are now enrolling volunteers in a study to evaluate a hormone contraceptive for the treatment of menstrual-related migraines. If you experience migraines during or around your menstrual cycle, you may qualify. You must be a nonsmoker between 18 and 34, and either not currently taking any hormonal contraceptives or be willing to come off of your current therapy.
Qualified individuals receive study-related medical evaluations and investigational drug at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may also be provided.
Low Sex Drive in Postmenopausal Women
You may not realize that your lack of sexual desire could be due to a common medical condition that affects many women just like you. Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder, HSDD, is indicated by a decrease or absence of sexual desire that causes personal distress.
We are currently enrolling in several studies with investigational medications for this indication:
--Women age 30 to 65 who have undergone a hysterectomy with the removal of ovaries and are currently on estrogen replacement therapy may qualify for a 6 month trial of an investigational hormone gel.
--Women age 50 and older may qualify for a 5 year study to evaluate the efficacy and long term safety of the same investigational hormonal gel whether they have had a hysterectomy or have gone through natural menopause.
--The third study is with an investigational nonhormonal medication for low sex drive. Qualified volunteers must have gone through natural menopause. Antidepressants cannot be taken during this study.
All qualified individuals will receive study related evaluations including mammograms and EKG as well as investigational medication at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may be provided.
Antibiotic Treatment for Chlamydia
Men and women age 19 to 45 who have tested positive for Chlamydia or their partners may qualify for this study. Participants will receive either the standard antibiotic treatment or the investigational antibiotic for one week at no charge. Compensation for time and travel may be provided.
Diabetes Mellitus
Men and women age 18 to 80 may qualify for this 2-year trial to evaluate an investigational oral medication for glucose control. Volunteers must be presently taking metformin (Glucophage) and still with elevated glucose levels.
Participants will receive study-related medical care and medication at no cost. Compensation for time and travel may be provided.
